The Jack Lawton Webb Convention Center was a vision of Jack Lawton Webb, he began construction in it's present location in 1972 and opened it's doors on November 14, 1975.
The opening day featured a full house with a show and sale by the International Antique Dealer's Association, Inc and was attended by over 70 hand picked national and international vender exhibits covering over 28,000 square feet
A large crowd of over 250 persons and many family members of Mr. Webb's attended the presentation of a special plaque from all the venders and were on hand during the opening festivities.
Opening day was the first event held in the new center, the annual Joplin International Antique Show and Sale that benefitted the Joplin Boys Club
Jack was such a pioneer in his business ventures, when he saw there was a need for a people friendly
facility to host a wide variety of events... so what did he do... he built one!
Jumping in with both feet with a mindset of "Build it and they will come" Jack created one of the first privately owned convention centers in the area
with no anchors to any national chain hotels or big city convention centers, this property is owned and family operated right here in Joplin, Missouri
Since the opening of the Jack Lawton Webb Convention Center there have been a wide spectrum of specially occassions to utilize Jack's vision.
Weddings, wedding receptions, parties of all kinds... concerts, birthdays, anniversaries, surprise parties and seasonal - holiday parties are just a few.
Business meetings, trade shows, firework sales, revivals, concerts, tool sales, pet shows, car shows, high school reunions, auctions, fund raiser dinners, dances, boat shows and many more!
The Jack Lawton Web Convention Center has won the Grand Lake Visitor' People's Choice Award's conseculative for the past 14 years for they're reasonable rates, they're location being conveniently on the edge of the Joplin city limits with No City Sales Tax, and they're locations access for the draw of the 4 state area,
located close to area banks, restaurants, fast foods, Sam's Wholesale Club, motels and hotels and Interstate Highway just minutes from the Joplin Rangeline Exit.

Being located somewhat to it's self provides the event foot traffic from they're targeted groups where people that have no interest are not just killing time and costing potentional sales due to drifters that insist on stopping to ask ridiculous questions... Some events want traffic but we can see the
value of not being in the middle of a large traffic area where the show ends up being a baby sitter... We understand that we are both here to make money.
Another aspect of our exclusive location is our security mindset... We look out for your security while you are here with us, if it's a wedding or special event where you just want to have fun with no city police enforcement breaking up your party, to specialy sales gatherings where we help keep an eye on the crowds and suspicious charactors, and being close-nit with our local Sheriffs office to handle any issues that may arise.
Within this "Vision" that Jack created, it included one very destinctive and exclusive feature... The fact that the event planner could come to Jack with his idea and for no extra fee or charge Jack would not only walk out the
planned event, he would tell up up front with his business knowledge, if the event you were planning to have would work or not... Then he would go on to explain what he thought would be needed to make it work!
Jack passed away a few years ago and the Jack Lawton Webb Convention Center was left to his neiphew Joe H. Burtrum and his family that have assisted Jack in the creation of his Vision as well as it's daily operation.
Today the Jack Lawton Webb Convention Center continues to play by the rules that Uncle Jack had set when he built this very successful venture, another one of his success stories that
many said would never work... But they didn't know Jack Webb or the Burtrum family now did they?
