Terry Hembree - owner

I became acquainted with Mickey Mantle several years ago doing marketing and promotion for his charity fund raisers. After his passing there was talk of a museum to be built here in Grove, Oklahoma (Located just minutes from Mick's home town of Commerce and his birthplace of Spavinaw) Nothing was ever done, and the public was constantly wanting to go into my offices and view my Mantle items, the local newspaper came to take photos for the story about the possible museum of the items I had collected over the years. I had a stroke in June of 99 and had some free time and began purchasing items to add to the collection, to the point we built a 12'x35' glassed in & secured display of the Mantle items. We are doing this as a free Memorial to Mickey, NO items are for sale, simply for the viewing pleasure of the folks that, like us, loved the Commerce Comet' We would like to stress one of Mick's final dreams and requests that people become aware of tissue and organ donation, if you haven't done so please check into that as your personal Memorial to Mickey! If you ever pass through Northeastern Oklahoma, please stop by Grove at the Hollywood Video Super Store and view our dedication to baseball's all time great! Keep your eyes on this site and maybe you will see and hear more about our labor of love. "Mickey Mantle... The Legend Lives On!" Terry G. I visited with Terry Hembree the evening after the ceremony.  His Mantle exhibit is extremely impressive.  It was truly refreshing to meet another dedicated Mantle fan.  I enjoyed the evening that we spent comparing notes and reminiscing about Mickey.  Below are a few photos that I took of his comprehensive collection of Mickey Mantle memorabilia.

Mickey Mantle celebrated in hometown video store memorial

After years of impatient waiting for an official museum, businessman Terry G. Hembree has opened the "Mickey Mantle Memorial Exhibit," in Mantle's hometown. Created from Hembree's private collection of Mickey Mantle memorabilia, it's free to the public at the local Hollywood At Home Video Super Store.

The exhibit displays thousands of personal Mantle items, collectibles and baseball artifacts, from his younger days in Commerce through his Baxter Springs Whiz Kids days, and the New York Yankees. More than just the story of the athlete, it traces his business interests in the Mickey Mantle Bowling Center, Country Cookin’ Restaurants, Mickey Mantle’s Holiday Inn, numerous endorsed products, movies such as "A Touch Of Mink" and "Safe At Home."

Then there's Mickey Mantle the collectible machine: the exhibit presents every statue and figurine released, 24 Kt. Gold collectors plates, mugs, steins, bobbing head dolls, action figures, toys, medallions in silver, gold, platinum and pewter, stuffed bears, game boards, numerous Highland Mint items, stamps, cachets, and Wheaties boxes.

Yankee day items include uniforms, jerseys, jackets, caps, Mantle baseballs, bats, game day bats, miniature bats, gloves, souvenir items, buttons, patches, yearbooks, pennants, letters, game photos and a replica of Mick's World Series ring. There are autographed balls, gloves, bats, cleats, trading cards, golf clubs, golf balls, books, plaques, documents, contracts, letters, posters, prints, lithographs, business cards, and rare baseball cards.

Interactive TV monitors play Mantle game highlights, interviews and stories.

Hembree became acquainted through marketing and promoting Mantle’s Charity Golf Tournaments, and has always had numerous Mantle items on his office walls "that everyone wanted to go in and view."

Hembree’s exhibit is open daily from 1 pm to close Monday through Saturday, and is located at "536" West Third Street, Suite "7" in the Lakeview Shopping Center next to Cheapo Depo in Grove, Oklahoma.
